Further remand for ‘misleading’ people

IMPHAL, Jun 22 : Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West today remanded 41 year old Khoisnam Shantikumar to judicial custody for uploading a video on Whatsapp and Facebook allegedly to mislead the public about the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination drive.
The accused Khoisam Shantikumar, s/o (L) Jilla of Lairenjam Awang (Mekola) was produced before the Court via video conferencing after completion of his police remand by a team of Imphal Police Station with a prayer for remanding him to judicial custody.
On the other hand, the defense counsel of the accused filed a remand objection and prayed for his bail.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that the accused who is a Rifleman at 1st Manipur Rifles was arrested for allegedly uploading a video on social media to spread false information about the ongoing COVID-19 vaccination drive.
The said video is affecting the initiatives of the Government and the Health Department that aims at curbing the COVID-19 pandemic, the IO added.
The IO also alleged that the said video is making the front-line workers vulnerable to obstruction, intimidation.
The defense counsel submitted that the accused is an employee of Manipur Police and also an international Wushu player. The defense counsel, stating that the accused is also the bread earner of his family, prayed for the release of Shantikumar on bail.
The Court after hearing and on perusal of the facts and material on record remanded the accused to judicial custody till July 6.
