Many decry detention of Y Shanta, Ibotomba

IMPHAL, Jun 22: Many individuals and local organisations have expressed strong resentment against the detention of Yumnam Shanta Meetei who is intending to contest in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election from Keirao Assembly Segment and  Shanta's friend Sanglakpam Ibotomba Sharma.
Condemning the detention of  the two persons all from Kyamgei Maning Leikai, sit-in protest were staged at their locality-Kyamgei Maning Leikai, Kyamgei Awang Leikai, Kyamgei Khoirom Leikai, Keirao Makting and Arapti Lilong Mapal yesterday.
Calls for immediate release of the two persons were also raised at the protest sites. It may be noted that Y Shanta and Ibotomba Sharma were arrested on June 5 for their alleged link with a proscribed militant outfit.
They were released on bail on June 14 before being booked under NSA within a short duration.
The protestors during the sit-in also charged that the Government is misusing its power by detaining them after they were just freed on bail.
In the meantime, Kyamgei Youth Pioneer Club has appealed to the State Government to release its former general secretary and member S Ibotomba Sharma if they are innocent.
Meanwhile, former pradhan and spouse of Y Shanta, Mombi distributed edibles and other essential commodities to households under the containment zone announced in Kyamgei Maning Leikai, Kyamgei Mayai Leikai and Kyamgei Awang Leikai.
