IMPHAL, Jun 21
The All Manipur Students Guardians’ Organisation (AMSGO) has claimed that a group United Association of Recognised Schools of Manipur (UARSoM) requesting at least 70 percent of the tuition fees from the parents/guardians is akin to dishonoring the notification of Education (S) that directs schools to collect 50 percent of the monthly payable fees from students.
A press release issued by AMSGO demanded the UARSoM to declare whether they are an apex body of private schools or a group of some like-minded schools.
What is the motive of this association (UARSoM), the AMSGO asked and added that the rate of school fee asked by UARSoM is totally against the notification of the Government.
Certain schools demanding a tuition fee from the parents by taking advantage of the Government notification hastily without considering the hardship of the people is upsetting, AMSGO continued.
Saying that the Government should be aware of the many students who are not yet admitted to any schools, the organization contended that discussing the matter of fee after the admission process is cleared would be right.
Not all student organizations seem to be present in the meeting convened to discuss fee structure, it claimed.
Continuing that the Government taking the opinion of only UARSoM would be wrong, AMSGO asked whether the students will be barred from attending classes or examinations if they are unable to clear their fee.
The Government and the authority concerned should be very aware that children of daily wagers whose source of income has been cut off by the Covid pandemic are also attending schools, AMSGO said and appealed to the Government to formulate a policy program to ensure students have access to free education during the pandemic.
The organization also urged the State Government to review the order of Education (S) dated June 16 that directs schools to collect 50 percent of the monthly payable fees in the interest of the student's community.
