AFESAM aids

IMPHAL, Jun 21 : The  Armed Forces Ex-Servicement Association Manipur (AFESAM) today provided financial assistance to ex-servicemen, whose families have been adversely affected by the Covid pandemic.
The assistance was provided during a simple function held with adherence to Covid SOP after a collective pool of fund was raised through donations under the guidance of retd Lt Gen Konsam Himalay Singh and few benevolent ex-servicemen of the State, said AFESAM in a statement.
The ex-servicemen also expressed gratitude to all the donors including some from outside the State and some from those not in uniforms, the release said.
A sum of Rs 15,000 to 25,000 were provided to the next of kin of the ex-servicemen, it said.
As per the release,  financial assistance of Rs 25,000 each was extended to Abujam Ojit Singh, son of Late Hav Abujam Shyama Singh (Kakching) & Late Abujam Ongbi Angambi Leima; to L Mangol Nganbi Devi, wife of Late Hav Abhiram Meitei, Assam Regt (Sugnu) and Th Anjana Devi, wife of Late Hav Th Ibomcha (165 TA), Awang Sekmai.
Financial assistance of Rs 15,000 was on the other hand extended to Hav S Sitlhou of 15 Assam Regt (R/O Motbung) to show solidarity on the demise of his father & mother due to Covid.
Next of kin of late to Naib Subedar Mairembam Tomba Singh was helped with separate donation of Rs 2,18,000 through collection by ex servicemen of Bishnupur of which  a large chunk of Rs 1,00,000 was generously donated by Col David Devasahayam (Retd) of 8th Gorkha Rifles. Ex-servicemen of Bishnupur district gave an additional amount of Rs 50,000 as mandated in their association rules for any death of a member, it said.
AFESAM members also expressed their heartfelt gratitude to all the 15 Officers, 7 JCOS & 9 NCOs for their generosity, it said.
