International Widow's Day observed at Tamenglong, Thoubal

District Legal Service Authority, Tamenglong observed "International Widow's Day" through virtual mode today.
On this special occasion, an online Legal Awareness Programme was organised by DLSA Tamenglong on "Welfare Schemes for Widows".
Para Legal Volunteers, NGOs, students/youth organisations, women organisation and local clubs, etc of Tamenglong district participated in the said programme.
Aribam Guneshwar Sharma, MJS, District & Session Judge, Imphal West cum Chairman, DLSA Tamenglong while delivering the keynote address stated that there are two types of widows in Manipur unlike other States- widows whose husband were dead in fake encounter and widows whose husband expired because of drugs.
He also spoke on "Empowering the widows/abandoned Women of Manipur" and "Break the Silence".
Waikhom Birahari Singh, Deputy Director, Social Welfare Department, Government of Manipur also attended the programme as a resource person.
He highlighted the central schemes exclusively for widows- Indira Gandhi National Widow Pension Scheme (IGNWPS), National Family Benefit Scheme (NFBS) and State schemes- Financial Assistance to Poor and Needy Widow Women.
He also spoke on the eligibility criteria & documents required for getting the benefits under the said schemes and urged the participants to submit the required information through the portal "nsap.nic.in".
Similarly, District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal under the supervision of Manipur State Legal Services Authority, Lamphelpat, Imphal organised "Observance of International Widows Day cum Legal awareness programme" through Jitsi Meet video conferencing today.
The programme began with a welcome address by Chief Judicial Magistrate/Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Thoubal, Shanta Devi while Binny Ngagom, District & Sessions Judge/Chairman District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal gave the Keynote address.
Resource person, Arambam Kameshwor Singh, District Social Welfare Officer, Thoubal also spoke on "Discussion on the various benefit schemes for widows under Social Welfare Department and its implementation thereof".
Sharda Yengkhom, Judicial Magistrate First Class, Thoubal gave the vote of thanks.
The programme was participated by the coordinators of Legal Aid Clinics, PLVs, Panel Lawyers under District Legal Services Authority, Thoubal; Retainer Lawyers of Front Office DLSA Thoubal; and the widows of Swadhar Home, Wangbal.
