IMPHAL, Jun 23 : Chief Minister N Biren Singh has appealed to all sections of society to remain united and uphold oneness as the BJP State Unit observed the 68th death anniversary of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh-predecessor of the Bharatiya Janata Party.
The observation programme organised at BJP State Unit's head office at Nityaipat Chuthek was attended by Chief Minister N Biren; IPR Minister, Th Biswajit; CAF&PD Minister Th Satyabrata; Rajya Sabha MP Leishemba Sanajaoba and other party leaders who also paid floral tributes to the photo of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
Speaking at the occasion, the Chief Minister fondly recalled that the call of One Nation and Integrity was the brainchild of Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
Shyama Prasad Mukher-jee was totally against division in any matter, be it the Constitution or the flag, he said.
To commemorate his sacrifice and vision, his death anniversary is observed as 'Baldian Diwas', said the CM who also maintained that the diwas will be celebrated till his (SP Mukherjee) birthday-July 6.
A tree plantation drive was also organised inside the BJP office premises as a part of the commemorative function.
Leading the tree plantation drive, the Chief Minister also said that more than 60 thousand saplings of trees shall be planted across the State through BJP's district units and mandals commemorating the visionary politician.
He also appealed to all to set aside political differences and  support the plantation drive.
The idea of oneness should also prevail in Manipur, he said while adding that many measures and approaches to bind all communities together have been taken up since the BJP led Government came to power.
He further asserted that all communities have started standing against poppy plantation and drug abuse.
The Chief Minister also asserted that efforts have been made to construct museums for all communities to help them preserve their cultural heritage and to inculcate the idea of oneness among all. Moreover, inclusive policies in employment are in the pipeline to ensure all communities receive a fair share of opportunity for development, he continued.
ST Morcha of BJP State Unit also observed the day at Rani Gaidinliu Park at Chingmeirong and conducted a mass plantation programme.
Attending the function BJP vice president N Nimbus recalled that Shyama Prasad Mukherjee died while he was in Kashmir demanding abrogation of Article 370.
Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee's dream was fulfilled by PM Narendra Modi in 2019, he continued.
