DIMAPUR, Jun 29: Naga Students' Federation (NSF) appealed to all the educated youths, particularly in rural sector where the lack of access to technology have largely hampered the teaching-learning process, to play a proactive role in imparting education to the students’ community affected by the ongoing shutdown of educational institutions. The federation also appealed to parents of students who are economically sound to pay off the school fees of their ward(s) on time so that the continuous cycle of teaching-learning process remains unaffected.
Furthermore, the Naga Students’ Federation extended its sincerest appreciation towards the Catholic community of Nagaland and all other educational institutions which came forward to help the needy students in the form of fee waiver during the previous academic year.
NSF then said in a statement on Tuesday that the lockdown in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic has caused untold hardships to the entire populace. It also said that there has been a tectonic shift in the day-to-day affairs of every individual. It further said that education remains one sector which is worst impacted by the pandemic threatening to throw the future of the students in jeopardy.
The federation, however, said that it was convinced that the future of the students and the society cannot be compromised despite the raging pandemic and that every possible effort is taken by all the stakeholders in a bid to salvage the grim situation.
In light of the above, NSF officials had a threadbare discussion with Shanavas C, IAS, Principal Director, School Education, Kohima, Nagaland, and placed charter of representation saying, "It has come to the knowledge of the federation that most of the teachers employed by the state government has been neglecting their duties even while online classes has been on in full swing". It also said that such dereliction of duties reflects badly upon the noble profession. It is therefore appealed to the state government to strictly implement the ‘No work, No pay’ policy.
NSF also appealed to the state government to issue an official order with regard to fee waiver by all the schools in the state. "This should be issued in line with the successive court orders," it added.
