DIMAPUR, Jun 6: The Naga People’s Front (NPF) has expressed "deep concern" over the health and economic welfare of the people.
As the impact of the continuous lockdown throughout the State (of Nagaland) has severely affected the poorer section of the society, the party asks the Government what programmes and initiatives it had taken so far in addressing these issues", the NPF said in a statement.
It then alleged that the prices of essential commodities are skyrocketing and so far the Government authority has remained silent to meet the basic rights of the people.
The NPF said it is is equally concerned over the rise of Covid-19 cases which is now slowly transmitting towards the rural areas and unless the Government seriously addresses the economic problem of the people, soon it may account to death by hunger soon. The NPF said the Covid-19 pandemic is the biggest threat to the entire world at the moment but no Government can let its people go hungry as the earning for many sections of the society had been by paralyzed for months due to the lockdown.
Therefore, the NPF strongly demanded the Government of Nagaland to immediately address the plight of the people. "If not then "starvation war" will destroy the whole State.
Meanwhile, the party categorically reiterated the demand raised by its legislature wing that the Government set up an inquiry into the Government’s alleged financial management during the pandemic. "The party reiterates its demand that a detailed white paper on all the funds received and expenditures incurred thereof from 2020-21 to 2021-22 along with all relevant methodology of grants, processes of procurement, disbursement criteria be published," it added.
The NPF then reminded the Government of the day to properly sensitize the people on the importance of taking Covid-19 vaccine and make available the vaccine to the people.
