India logs 86,498 new cases, lowest in 66 days

NEW DELHI, Jun 8
India on Tuesday reported a daily rise in new coronavirus infections of 86,498 cases over the past 24 hours, the lowest in 66 days, according to the Government. With this, the country reported less than 1 lakh daily new Covid-19 cases for the first time in the last 63 days.
A net decline of 97,907 cases has been recorded in the Covid-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours.
However, the number of deaths remained above the 2000-mark. The country reported 2123 deaths in last 24 hours, the lowest in 47 days, according to the data by the Health Ministry. The Covid-19 death toll climbed to 3,51,309, the data updated at 8 am showed.
The active caseload declined by 97,907, and it currently stands at 13,03,702, said the Union Health Ministry.
Meanwhile, 1,82,282 patients have recovered during the last 24 hours, taking the total number of recoveries so far to 2,73,41,462 across the country. Recoveries continued to outnumber the daily new cases for the 26th consecutive day. The recovery rate has increased to 94.29%.
