Mizoram reports highest spike of 807 cases, 2 deaths

Mizoram on Tuesday registered the highest single-day spike of COVID-19 cases as 807 people have tested positive for the infection pushing the State’s tally to 28,295, a Health Department official said
The State also reported two fresh fatalities, which took the death toll to 125, he said.
More than 150 children and four Border Security Force (BSF) jawans were among the newly infected people, he said.
Of the fresh cases, 234 cases were confirmed at an RT-PCR laboratory in Zoram Medical College (ZMC), while 510 cases were detected through Rapid Antigen Test and the remaining 63 cases were detected through TrueNat tests.
The single-day positivity rate is 10.85 per cent as the fresh cases were detected from 7,436 sample tests.
Aizawl district reported the highest number of fresh cases at 550, followed by Lunglei (103), Kolasib (56), Lawngtlai (27), Mamit (23), Champhai (20), Siaha (20), Serchhip (5), Hnahthial (2) and Saitual district (1).
According to the official, thirteen patients have travel history, while 537 patients were diagnosed with Covid-19 during contact tracing and it is to ascertain how the remaining 257 patients contracted the virus.
Of the 807 patients, 443 patients have developed symptoms of COVID-19 and the remaining 364 patients were asymptomatic, he said.
Mizoram now has 6,482 active COVID-19 cases while 21,688 people have recovered from the infection, including 325 on Monday, he said.
The North Eastern State has tested 5,64,674 samples for COVID-19, including 7,436 in the last 24 hours.
The recovery rate is 76.64 per cent and death rate is 0.44 per cent. According to State Immunisation Officer Dr Lalzawmi, 6,06,189 lakh people have been inoculated till Monday.  East Mojo
