Ahead of Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio-led crucial core committee meeting on the Naga political issue and peace talks with the NSCN (IM) and the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs), Nagaland’s main Opposition party—the Naga People’s Front (NPF) – has decided to join the ruling Government to form an all party Government.
Nagaland Deputy CM Y Patton and leader of Opposition TR Zeliang of the Naga People’s Front (NPF), both of who are co-convenors of the committee, along with 15 other MLAs representing all political parties, are set to join the Naga negotiating groups following the core committee’s meeting on July 9.
According to sources, the core committee is scheduled to meet with the NNPGs led by convenor N Kitovi Zhimomi on Tuesday evening, followed by a meeting with NSCN (IM) led by Th Muivah in Dimapur on Wednesday.
Ahead of the crucial meetings, the NPF has decided to form a coalition Government with the ruling People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) Government after day-long deliberations in Dimapur on Monday and a day after the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) asked all the 60 legislators of the Nagaland Assembly to resign to pave the way for the Naga political solution on July 18.
As per reports, the decision of the Opposition party was made after the NDPP had invited the party to form an all party Government, for a common interest—Naga political solution.
However, the final decision of the PDA Government–a pre-poll alliance of the NDPP-BJP, is yet to be made.
The developments came after the NDPP had claimed that during its meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi, Shah assured that the “PDA coalition will complete the present term under Rio’s leadership with full honour and dignity and that the PDA coalition would continue even beyond the present term”.
The core committee of a Parliamentary panel had earlier appealed to all the negotiating groups “to come together”, “hammer out” their differences and create a common approach for “one solution and one agreement”.
The core committee appealed to the negotiating parties of the Indo-Naga political dialogue to resume peace talks with a positive approach of mutual respect for each other by setting aside its pre-conditions for long-term peace.
Meanwhile, as per sources, the Nikki Sumi faction is in the process of signing a ceasefire agreement with the Government of India.  East Mojo
