Prof N Lokendra named MU's VC

IMPHAL, Jul 23 : Prof Naorem Lokendra Singh, Head of Department of History of Manipur University has been been named as the Vice Chancellor (VC) of the university for a term of five years.
Prof Lokendra was among 12 individuals approved as VCs of other Central universities by the President of India, who is the Visitor to Central universities.
The last regular VC of Manipur Uhiversity Adya Prasad Pandey was dismissed in February last year.
Manipur University has not had a regular VC since AP Pandey's dismissal and VCs in-charge were at the helm of MU's administration since then.
Prof Lokendra has reportedly assumed charge from today.
The appointment will immensely relieve the student community who were voicing for a regular VC since last year.
Simultaneously other VCs appointed to Central universities by the Visitor are : Prof (Dr) Tankeshwar Kumar-Central University of Haryana; Prof Sat Prakash Bansal-Central University of Himachal Pradesh; Dr Sanjeev Jain- Central University of Jammu; Prof Kshiti Bhusan Das-Central University of Jharkhand; Prof Battu Satyanarayan-Central University of Karnataka; Prof Muthukalingan Krishnan-Central University  of Tamil Nadu; Dr Basuthkar J Rao-Central University of Hyderabad; Prof Kameshwar Nath Singh-Central University of South Bihar; Prof Prabha Shangkar Shukla-North Eastern Hill University, Dr Alok Kumar Chakrawal-Guru Ghasidas University and Prof Syed Ainul Hasan -Maulana Azad National Urdu University.
