N Loken named interim president of MPCC (I)

IMPHAL, Jul 24 : The All India Congress Committee (AICC) has appointed Nameirakpam Loken Singh as the interim president of the Manipur unit of the party.
The post of MPCC president has been lying vacant following the resignation of Govindas Konthoujam as the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president a few days back.
Loken Singh, also an MLA, will be in his new position till a full-time State unit president is appointed.
He was first elected to the 6th Manipur Legislative Assembly on MPP ticket in 1995 and re-elected to the 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th Manipur Legislative Assembly on INC ticket.
Loken thanked AICC president Sonia Gandhi for appointing him as the interim president of MPCC and sought support from the party office bearers and workers in strengthening the party.
Meanwhile, during a function at Congress Bhavan, AICC Manipur -in charge, Bhakta Charan Das exuded confidence that the State unit of the Congress will become more sturdy under the leadership of Loken.  He also contended that there is a possibility of Congress forming the Government in the State in the first week of August as the final judgement on the appointment of 12 MLAs  as Parliamentary Secretaries will be given on July 26 by the Supreme Court.
Former Chief Minister O Ibobi , while congratulating the new interim president, stated that the party will  start preparing for the 2022 Assembly elections under the interim president. CWC member Gaikhangam; MLAs Dr Chalton, TN Haokip and K Ranjit also took part in the event.  Loken was born at Leimapokpam Mayai Leikai on February 1, 1969. He is a BA graduate.
