IMPHAL, Jul 24 : The Naga People's Front (NPF) is considering fielding at least 12 candidates in the 2022 Assembly elections.
Briefing media persons at Chahong Khullen under Kamjong district on Friday, Phungyar AC MLA K Leishiyo  stated that the party (NPF) is planning to field candidates  in non-Naga dominated Constituencies too.
Saying that infighting among the party members costs the NPF in the last election, the MLA contended that NPF will give its best efforts to increase the number of its MLAs in the forthcoming election.
K Leishiyo is the treasurer of NPF, State unit.
It may be mentioned that NPF which currently has 4 MLAs is a constituent member of the BJP led coalition Government in Manipur.
He also said that the NPF is hopeful of winning at least 10 seats in the upcoming elections.
Continuing that  the party hasn't talked of forming a pre and poll post alliance with the BJP to date, K Leishiyo continued that the NPF didn't form a pre poll alliance with the saffron party in the last elections.
The MLA continued that there is also a probability of deferring the Assembly elections, which is due in the early part of next year, if  the State cannot cover 80 percent of the population in its inoculation drive.
It may further be mentioned that chief spokesperson of BJP State unit Ch Bijoy had recently asserted that the saffron party will contest the Assembly elections independently.
