Senapati, Jul 25: The National Highway-2 that had been black topped about a year ago is now at a deplorable condition with numerous potholes and cracks along Mao and Tadubi area under Senapati district.
In this regard, the Mao Students Union expressed their dissatisfaction of the executing agency (BIPL) and the PWD over the non construction of retaining wall and required culvert along the sinking zone portion of the highway especially between Maram to Mao-Gate.
The student body mentioned that the executing agency failed to take cognizance of sinking zones along the mentioned stretch. Eeveral discussions between the Senapati District Students Association (SDSA), Mao Students Union and the contractors of BIPL have been held in the past.
The blame was always shifted to the report of soil testing by the PWD, thereby delaying the construction of retaining walls and required culverts wherever necessary along the said stretch, it alleged.
Earlier, the Mao Students Union had reportedly submitted a written application to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) to intervene in the matter but to no avail.
It may be mentioned that the highway is in a deplorable condition and in need of immediate  repair works & attention from the concerned authority.
According to the locals, several portions of the road had been sunked due to rain. The worst portion of the highway may be enlisted at Mao Gate, near Mao Police Station.
