S Rajen announces Rs 3 lakh for Mirabai

Education & Fishery Minister S Rajen Singh has announced  Rs 3 lakh cash incentive for Olympic silver medallist Saikhom Mirabai Chanu for her outstanding achievement in the ongoing Tokyo Olympics, 2020.
Mirabai lifted her way to the Silver medal yesterday at Tokyo.
Minister Rajen was speaking at a felicitation ceremony of  Namoijam Naoba Meitei who secured 27th all India rank, in the National Defence Academy exam, 2021, at his residence at Salam today.
Rajen said that the laurels brought by Mirabai Chanu has inspired all the young sporting talents of the State.
It is indeed an exceptional moment of pride for the State and the country, he noted.
The incentive will be handed over to Mirabai Chanu as soon as she returns to the State, he added.
The award is to be sponsored by the Education Department.
The Minister, on the other hand, said securing 27th rank in such a competitive exam is not an easy task.
Such achievers should be encouraged by all as they inspire future aspirants.
Rajen also handed over Rs 30,000 to Naoba.
Naoba was born and brought up at Khonghampat Khunou.
Son of N Naran and N (ongbi) Premila Leima, Naoba Meitei studied at Sainik School Imphal from Class VI standard onwards. He also has outstanding achievements in the fields of sports and other co-curricular activities.
At the function, sprayer pumps were also distributed to farmers of Lamsang AC.
Keirao AC MLA L Rameshwor has also congratulated S Mirabai Chanu for opening the medal tally for India with a silver medal in the 49kg weightlifting event at the Tokyo Olympic 2020.
In his message, the MLA said, "We feel so overwhelmed by the joy of seeing you win the medal for the country."
