For this, first, we must know what is a containment zone and how is the micro-containment zone different from the containment zone.
What is a Micro-containment zone ?
Micro-containment zones are specific areas where a number of Covid-19 cases have been reported in recent times. The idea is to cause as little disruption to normal life and economic activity, while also keeping the action of containing the spread intensively focussed. So, local authorities identify these areas— which might be as small as a building—and isolate only that small region from the rest instead of a bigger area-thus not affecting economic activities as well.
While, earlier, the buildings were sealed, now there is no sealing per se but the focus is more on monitoring the residents and restricting the movements of patients.
Containment Zone : In the current pandemic, all interventions are primarily geared towards reducing people-to-people contact, and thus breaking the chain of transmission to the extent possible.
Last year (2020) when the coronavirus-driven pandemic was in its early stages, the entire country had been put into a lockdown. The entire economic activity-barring essential services and commodities-was barred. Then activities were slowly resumed as there was a clear demarcation or classification of red, orange, and green districts operated at the State and inter-district levels. At the town, village, or municipal or panchayat area smaller areas were marked out as containment zones.
Containment of the spread of the Covid contagion being the purpose, neighbourhoods, colonies, or housing societies where infected people live are sealed, and access is restricted.
The restrictions on movement and interaction were the most severe in containment zones. In many cities, the entire demarcated area was barricaded and the entry and exit points closed. Only the very basic supplies and services were allowed inside. Times Now
