The COVID-19 situation in Mizoram is worsening with each passing day, worrying the State Health Department.
The State on Thursday reported 1,402 new COVID-19 cases with single-day positivity rate of 12.10 per cent pushing the State’s tally to 75,470, a Health Department official said.
At least 11,599 samples were tested in the last 24 hours, he said. The death toll rose to 250 as four more people succumbed to the infection in the last 24 hours, he said.
Fresh Covid cases were reported from various districts, while Aizawl continues to register the highest number of cases with 779, followed by Siaha at 265 and Serchhip at 78, he said.
However, the health official also claimed they were conducting several sample tests or mass testing drives, contact tracing and testing of most suspected persons or potential carriers, which could have resulted in the high number of daily positive cases.
At least 242 children, three Border Security Force (BSF) jawans and two healthcare frontline workers were among the newly-infected people, he said.
Eleven patients have a travel history, while the rest 1,391 were found to have contracted the disease locally, he said. At least 633 patients have developed symptoms of Covid-19, he added. Mizoram now has 13,973 active cases, while 61,247 people have recovered from the infection, including 950 people on Wednesday. The recovery rate among Covid-19 patients is 81.50 per cent, and the death rate remains at 0.33 per cent.
The State has conducted more than 9.95 lakh sample tests to date. According to State Immunisation Officer Dr Lalzawmi, over 6.66 lakh people have been vaccinated till Wednesday, of which 3.36 lakh people have received full doses.
