IMPHAL, Sep 18 : Making a range of demands including ramping up of the Covid vaccination drive, at least eleven political parties in the Opposition are set to hold State-wide protest from September 20 to 30.
The 11 Opposition parties are AIFB, AITC, BSP, CPI (M), INC, JD (S), MPP, NCP, PRJA and BSP.
The proposed protest is a part of the 11-day Nation wide protest being called by 19 Opposition parties to save the secular, democratic and republican order of the country.
The demands of the Opposition parties in Manipur include intensification of Covid vaccine production as well as the vaccination drive, compensation of the families who had lost a member to Covid, providing of financial aid of Rs 7,500 every month to the poor, reduction of Central Excise Tax being levied on petrol and diesel, scrapping of the three controversial Farm Laws and the Labour codes, increasing the  mandays and wages of MGNREGA.
The Opposition also urged the Government to deploy Highway Protection Force in Manipur and protect the boundary of Manipur.
Addressing the media at BT Road today, INC representative T Mangibabu stated that the governance of BJP in both the Centre and the  State is unsatisfactory.
The BJP is repeatedly disregarding the Constitution in exercising its might and is attempting to distort the secular fabric of the Nation, he alleged.
Dr M Nara, representative of CPI (M), stated that the people should no longer remain a mere spectator to the anti-people policy of the saffron party.
Saying that the BJP is anti-people but corporate friendly , Dr Nara continued that rapid privatisation of the country's assets by BJP is a dangerous policy.
He further said that Opposition parties have unanimously  accepted the Modi-led Government as anti-people.
The Government is also completely ignoring the protest  of farmers who are demanding the repeal of the three Farm Laws, he contended and claimed that the Modi-led Government wants to run the country like a dictator.
He then urged the people to support the 11-day protest.
