World Bamboo Day observed

World Bamboo Day was observed today at Sorshia Christian College, Mapao Zingtun, Kangpokpi District Manipur.
The programme was graced by Professor Amar Yumnam, former Vice-Chancellor Manipur University as chief guest, Dr Homen Thangjam, faculty IGNTU, Regional Campus Manipur and Mayanglambam Khelendro Singh, president Apunba Imagi Machasing (AIMS) as guests of honour while Hoping Raman, Mapao Zingtun, presided over the ceremony.
Professor Amar Y spoke about the environmental benefits of using bamboo, taking note of its role in reducing carbon footprint. He also called for promotion and plantation of bamboo. Dr Homen  focused on how bamboo is ingrained in the tradition of Manipur while M Khelendro spoke about AIMS' contribution to the development of bamboo in Manipur. The programme concluded with the planting of bamboo in the campus of Sorshia Christian College.
Also Manipur Industries Union observed the day at Crafts Complex at Patsoi Part I today.
