Telemedicine: Life saviour for remote villages

Telemedicine has become a game changer in the field of medical care for the people in remote villages of Manipur.
Recently, a sixty five year old woman from Chaljang Makui village in T Waichong Sub division of Kangpokpi district was bitten by a snake.
The family members of the victim contacted the company commander of 44 Assam Rifles at Gelnel post, following which the medical staff immediately rushed to the PHC for medical assistance.
Subsequently, the doctor contacted CMO, 44 AR for medical assistance. The unit CMO spoke to the patient and medical staff through video call and directed them in provisioning and administration of anti snake venom.
The video call helped in providing telemedicine at the right time to the patient which proved to be a life saviour. The lady was stabilised and later referred to district hospital for further medical care and observation.
The unit Telemedicine facility is available to all the residents in the AOR for any medical assistance by medical experts from the unit.
