PREPAK (Pro) man held with explosives

IMPHAL, Sep 21: A team of Imphal West district commandos arrested one PREPAK (Pro) cadre this morning who was out on bail a few hours after he hurled and exploded a hand grenade at Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai in connection with monetary demand.
Briefing media persons, Imphal West SP Dr S Ibomcha stated that based on specific information from their own sources about the presence of some active cadres of PREPAK (Pro) in and around Lairikyengbam Leikai with an intention to carry out prejudicial activities like hurling bombs and planting IED at private business centres, shops etc, a team of Imphal West commandos led by Inspector P Achouba rushed to the area and carried out cordon and search operation in some suspected houses.
The operation was carried out under the command of L Amarjeet, Additional SP Operation and under the overall supervision of Dr S Ibomcha, SP Imphal West. In the course of the operation, one PREPAK (Pro) cadre identified as Naoroibam Joyshankar alias Loyumba alias Khougang (37) s/o Inoacha of Lairikyengbam Makha Leikai was arrested from his house at 5 am today.
On preliminary interrogation, Naoroibam Joyshankar revealed that he joined the outfit in the year 2009 through one Herojit of Salanthong and got basic military training for three months at Ngayensong, Myanmar.
He is presently holding the rank of Lance Corporal and is working under the command of self styled Captain Jiten and Chairman Subash alias Palheiba alias Muni of the PREPAK (Pro).
The commando team recovered a black polythene bag containing one set of IED fitted in packaged fish (tin) can, one Chinese hand grenade, one air rifle, four PEK cakes, three electronic circuits, one remote control device, ten numbers of 3.4 volt battery, three numbers of 4.5 volt battery, two numbers of 9 volts battery and soldering equipment used in assembling IEDs.
Naoroibam Joyshankar further revealed that he had threatened one Naoroibam Boge by hurling two hand grenades which exploded in a paddy field near the residence of Naoroibam Boge at around 12.30 am today in connection with a monetary demand.
The IED and other explosive substances were sent by Chairman Subash alias Palheiba some months back with an instruction of hurling the bombs in case monetary demands are not responded positively and also to carry out IED attacks on security personnel, Dr Ibomcha stated as disclosed by Joyshankar,
The SP further stated Joyshankar was earlier arrested by Imphal West commandos in connection with an IED explosion at the CM Bungalow gate on August 10, 2013 and another IED explosion at Route 39 Restaurant located at Mantripukri on August 17, 2013.
The arrested person along with the seized explosive items were handed over to Lamphel police station for proper verification where an FIR case has also been registered.
