Naba Chakthekpi passes away

IMPHAL, Sep 21 : Renowned Sumang Leela vocalist Choudhurimayum Nabachandra Sharma popularly known as Naba Chakthekpi passed away this morning after battling COVID-19 for 45 days at JNIMS Hospital. He was 68.
He is survived by his wife, son and five daughters, said the Manipur State Film Development Society (MSFDS) in a condolence note.
Nabachandra was a multi-talented and resourceful individual who always did his duties with a smile on his face and charmed everyone who came in contact with him with his sense of humour, recalled MSFDS.
Nabachandra was also among the pioneers of playback singer in woman's voice in Sumang Leela. Some of the songs he sang are still remembered. Songs like "Nangbu angangba kurao mapal asida khoiningna tongba uraktra", "Ngasi loktak khongbansida e-nou nou-e eigi wakhal" etc are worth mentioning, MSFDS said.
A 2-minute silence was observed in honour of the departed soul followed by a candle light vigil at the Monolith of Manipuri Cinema at MSFDS complex, Konung Mamang, Imphal, MSFDS continued.
With Nabachandra's demise, MSFDS has lost altogether three of its staff to Covid, it added.
