PPCM remembers 'Lamyanba Irabot'

Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) held a memorial program today in remembrance of 'Lamyanba Irabot'.
In a lengthy statement issued today by PPCM, the committee said the it was on this day in 1949 MDU organised a public meeting to stand against the attempt to form Purbanchal Pradesh by uniting Manipur, Tripura, Cachar and Lushai Hills. This was also the day on which Hijam Irabot had to go underground following the incident at Pungdongbam, added the statement.
Hijam Irabot was a dynanic and multifaceted person who stood against the colonial power, fought against excessive exploitation of the public by the royals and work for the welfare of the poor, added the statement. In addition to this, he made various contribution to Manipuri literature. He had also advocated for self reliance in food production and for which he deliberated on the need to focus on agricultural activities, added the statement.
