IMPHAL, Jan 24 : Deputy Chief Minister Y Joykumar has once again claimed that the next State Government will be formed by the National People's Party (NPP) after emerging as the single largest party in the 2022 State Assembly election.
Addressing a felicitation ceremony of new members of NPP at Yumnam Huidrom Makha Leikai under Wangoi Assembly Constituency today, Y Joykumar continued that the NPP will win about 20 seats comfortably while the ruling BJP and Congress will not secure more than 15 seats each.
"This is not an empty talk but a prediction after much calculation," he said and added no parties in Manipur  have won more than 40 seats  in the political history of Manipur other than Congress in 2012.
"It is impossible for the  BJP to get absolute majority in this Assembly election given the political situation here," Joykumar continued and reiterated that the NPP will emerge as the single largest party.
Saying that NPP fielded Khuraijam Loken in both the 11th Assembly election and 2020 by election, Joykumar maintained that Loken, however, could not win both the elections.
Asserting that Loken will surely win this time, he urged the people of Wangoi to support the NPP in the ensuing election.
NPP candidate Loken also spoke at the function.
He said that the recent poll related violence in Samurou which killed two persons was truly unfortunate and condemned the use of brute force in electioneering.
"What is more disappointing is that the person who fired  the shot is not yet arrested," he said and added that Chief Minister N Biren Singh at least visiting the deceased families and  extending his sorrow is somewhat laudable.
Sagolsem Achouba who contested the Assembly election from Wangoi AC on several terms also joined the programme.
