IMPHAL, Jan 24 : Dog Protection Society, (DPS) Manipur has discovered a shortage in supply of anti-rabies vaccine at the State Veterinary Department.
This information was relayed at a press briefing held today at the residence of DPS, Manipur secretary Moirangthem Naoba.
Addressing the media, M Naoba stated that DPS, Manipur has been organising anti-rabies vaccination camps in various localities of the State as cases of rabies infected dogs and cats have steadily been on the rise to the point where death due to being bitten by a rabid dog has already been reported.
The secretary of DPS, Manipur informed that the shortage in anti-rabies vaccine was discovered when the Society had visited the State Veterinary Department to acquire more vaccines upon receiving requests for anti-rabies vaccination camps from 3/4 local clubs.
When the Society made a request for a steady supply of anti-rabies vaccine, they were informed of a shortage in supply by officials at the State Veterinary Department, he added.
However, following this, through the efforts of Director of State Veterinary Department Chabungbam Nabakishore, the required vaccines were supplied to DPS, M Naoba stated but continued to say that it was regrettable that the State Department is faced with a shortage in supply of such an important vaccine.
He further expressed the fear that the Society would be unable to conduct future vaccination camps if the State Department fail to supply them with the required vaccines.
It may be noted that the State Veterinary Department had supplied the anti-rabies vaccines for all 43 vaccination camps organised by DPS, Manipur.
