Cancer patient delivers baby boy at SHRI

IMPHAL, Jan 25 : A 42-year-old patient from Chandel District who was diagnosed with Grade 3 (aggressive) breast cancer delivered a baby boy on January 12, 2022 at Shija Hospitals & Research Institute (SHRI).
A statement from SHRI Pvt Ltd informed that the woman had been diagnosed with cancer and found to be pregnant in the first week of September, 2021 by Dr Ayekpam Anil Meetei, Consultant Surgical Oncologist at SHRI. The patient also consulted Dr Phijam Dhaneshwor, Consultant Obstetrics & Laparoscopic Gynecologist, at SHRI for antenatal care (ANC).
The statement informed that Dr Ayekpam Anil Meetei conducted Modified Radical Mastectomy (MRM) on the patient successfully on September 22, 2021 under PMJAY.
The team of experts at Shija delivered a healthy baby boy on January 12, 2022 and the family of the patient thanked the entire Shija team for transforming a traumatic episode into a miracle, according to the statement.
SHRI also applauded its team's efforts and competence in preserving the mother's and baby's lives and stated that the patient is yet to complete a few more cycles of chemotherapy and radiation therapy which can be given safely after the delivery of the baby.
