Gifts presented to destitute homes on occasion of Republic Day

IMPHAL, Jan 25: Social Welfare Director, Ngangom Uttam has appealed to all concerned who are managing charitable homes and orphanages in the State to work with dedication and honesty and strive for the well being of the needy and destitutes in the State.
The Director made the above appeal while speaking on the sidelines of presenting gifts and sweets to different orphanages, observation  homes, old age homes, blind, deaf and mute schools on the occasion of 73rd Republic Day.
He further went on to state that the Centre and Ministries concerned have started conducting surprise visits to charitable and destitute homes managed by different individuals to check on the functioning of such homes.
And if such homes are found functioning improperly just for mere monetary gains, they will be punished accordingly as per law, he added.
He also informed that the officials of the Social Welfare Department have provided assistance to around 18 children homes, 800 students and to old age homes and mental development homes in Imphal West, Imphal East and Chandel districts.
Secretary to Chief Minister, Geoffrey Ningthoujam who was also present on the occasion said that today's programme has been held to celebrate the occasion of Republic Day and to let the public know that the Constitution provides equal rights to every citizen of the country.
In today's programme, aids were presented to Government Blind School, Takyel, Deaf & Mute School, Observation Home, Old Age Home at Langol Ningthou Leikai, Punya Nawa Yaifakol (children home) at Thangmeiband and BB Paul Mental Development Home at Monsangei among others.
