IMPHAL, Jan 25 : The student wing of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) staged a protest at Mantripukhri denouncing Amra Bangali, a Kolkata based political party, for requesting the Supreme Court to squash ILP system in Manipur.
Volunteers of the JCLIPS stood in a row on either side of the road at Mantripukhri and raised slogans such as "Down Down Amra Bangali" and "Outsiders cannot decide the fate of the indigenous people" among others.
As the protesters were about to burn an effigy of Amra Bangali, the  State police arrived at the spot and foiled the attempt.
Speaking to the media, convenor of JCILPS's students wing Haobijam Chalamba Meitei stated that the Inner Line Permit System was  implemented in Manipur after a sustained campaign.
A young student Sapam Robinhood died for the cause, he recalled.
Saying that Amra Bangali challenging the permit system in Manipur is discriminatory as the same is implemented in some North East States too, he urged the Kolkata based political party to retract its stand.
Chalamba also urged the State Government to add more guidelines in the system to regulate the entry of non locals effectively.
"We will not remain a mute spectator in this grave matter," he said  and sought cooperation from all to save the indigenous people.
