IMPHAL, Jan 27 : The People's Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) has claimed responsibility for the series of bomb explosions that took place at four different places on January 26.
A press release issued by PREPAK publicity officer Mangal said that the action was carried out by the Red Army to show that the outfit boycotted the 73rd Republic Day of India.
According to PREPAK, they planted bombs at Hatta Golapati near Minuthong, Wangoo Lamkhai, Kakching Khunou Uyukthong and Hundung, Ukhrul and all the bombs went off as planned.
PREPAK claimed that some IEDs they planted didn't explode, such as in Pichu Lampak.
Claiming that the Republic Day of India is irrelevant to the people of Manipur, the outfit alleged that any attempt to Indianise the people of Kangleipak will never bear fruits.
The outfit further claimed that it was the Red Army which attacked the camp of 13 Assam Rifles on March 23, 2021 in Chandel district near Myanmar border.
Claiming that PREPAK will continue attacking the security forces, the outfit urged the people of Manipur to stay away from security forces.
The Red Army will strive to regain the lost independence of Kangleipak, it added.
The bomb explosions came amid heightened security ahead of Republic Day yesterday.
A blast at Uyokthong which is located in between Kakching Khunou and Umathel on Indo-Burma Sugnu Road partially damaged the bridge.
No casualties were reported.
Another bomb went off at Hundung, Ukhrul at around 10 am yesterday, but no one was hurt in the explosion.
Sounds of bomb explosions were also reportedly heard at Minuthong and Wangoo Lamkhai areas yesterday in the wee hours. The State police have not given any comments regarding these incidents.
Today, Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad of Manipur Police defused one IED found at Thongju Konok Khongnangkhong Isor Leirak at around 12.30 pm.
The IED weighing about 1 kg was detected by Assam Rifles personnel patrolling the area.
Soon, Singjamei police station was informed of the finding and the area was cordoned off to avoid casualties.
