CHURACHANDPUR, Jan 27: The Saichang Area Chiefs Association has called for immediate resumption of the 26 km long road construction work between Santing and Saikom under PMGSY which was otherwise halted mid-day due to discord and tussles between contractors with vested interest.
The important road which will connect more than 10 villages and benefit over 2000 inhabitants of Santing, Santing L, K Zoar, Maumuol, Muolkhang, Konpi, Saichang, D Loupum, Lailong (S), and Lailong (S) among others was sanctioned way back in 2018-19 by the central Government, said the chiefs’ association in a statement.
The construction was halted mid-day due to the involvement of some vested interest and that was unacceptable to the local population as they were deprived of the opportunity to have an all weathered connectivity due to the actions of some individual.
Besides, people of the area who are dependent on the road for livelihood and conveyance have suffered immensely due to the non-completion of the project.
The area's chief has therefore pleaded with the concerned authority to look into the matter and ensure early resumption and completion of the crucial road works. They have also appealed to the contractors to set aside their personal differences in the interest of the public to ensure the smooth resumption of works immediately.
The association also appealed to the High Court of Manipur to dispose of pending cases relating to the road works and passed a favorable judgment in public interest.
Saichang Area Chiefs further warned that the villagers will no longer remain as mute spectators if their sincere appeals are ignored and the dispute remains unsettled.
