Senapati, Sep 30 : Karong AC MLA, J Kumo Sha had assured development of sports infrastructure in the Senapati district.
He made the assurance while speaking at the felicitation programme of district medallists who shone at the recently held 2nd Manipur Olympic Games, 2022. The event was organised by the Senapati District Olympic Association, Manipur (SDOAM).
Kumo Sha said the medallists as well as the participants had shown their sportsmanship during the State Games even as they had participated in fewer games. Senapati is known to have been crowned the champions among all the hill districts of Manipur in the Games and hopefully excel more in the coming years.
While lauding SDOAM for being thoughtful to felicitate the players, J Kumo Sha also added the initiative of the SDOAM as praiseworthy as the local players without help of any modern and standard infrastructure could win medals in the Games. If the players are trained with proper facilities, they can raise the bar further, he added.
Noting the need for development of sports infrastructure, the MLA assured to install an open gym in the district through consultation with the Chief Minister. An inspection team is likely to visit the district very soon who also sought the suggestion of where to install the gym to ensure everybody remains fit, he said.
He also informed that CM has shown keen interest in promoting wrestlers and as such an indigenous sports complex has been proposed for Senapati district. Installation of lawn tennis and volleyball turf is underway, he said.
Experts are also expected to visit the district soon in connection for the proposed installation of football ground of FIFA standard, he said.
He also stressed on the need of encouraging players to raise further scope of performance at the State and National level events.
Solomon Arow, president, Naga People’s Organization congratulated the players for bringing laurels to the district adding that they will in the long run, inspire younger generations.  Solomon also lauded the SDOAM team to see that the district produces talented sportspersons and exuded confidence that they will continue to do so in future as well.
Joram Koveo, president, SDOAM while congratulating the medallists stated that their spirit of sportsmanship, perseverance and dedication had brought laurels to the district.
