TRAU cricket team's convenor hints anomalies in State cricket team selections

IMPHAL, Oct 1 : Convenor of TRAU Cricket Team, Potshangbam Shreekanta has alleged anomalies in State team trial selections by the Manipur Cricket Association.
Addressing media persons in a press conference held today at Manipur Press Club, Shreekanta alleged that Manipur Cricket Association has selected non-local players who lack proper documents in the recently conducted trial selections.
He alleged that the trial selection for preparation of Vinoo Mankad team (U-19) was not properly conducted as even players who failed physical tests were included in the list leaving many promising players.
Further, selection of senior players was "botched" as performances of many elite players in the State's tournament's were not even considered and trial was conducted in a hurried manner, he continued.
Such anomalies and wrongdoings will not only demoralise those working tirelessly for cricket and players but also affect the quality of cricket in the long run, he said.
Moreover, 3 non local players have been included in the State team for an upcoming National tournament, he said while drawing attention of body concerned to scrutinize documents of the players and check whether they fulfil selection criteria.
He also informed that he had sought proof of the eligibility of the players from the State association (Manipur Cricket Association) and the reply is awaited.
The association should also act swiftly and do the needful at the earliest to clear the doubts, he said while urging the concerned association to be very careful in future trial selections.
