36th National Games-Gujarat 2022Ronaldo, Kh Rejiya win cycling gold medals as S Bindyarani lifts third gold in weightlifting

IMPHAL, Oct 1 : Manipur's medal spree continued at the 36th National Games hosted by Gujarat as cyclists L Ronaldo and Kh Rejiya and lifter Sorokhaibam Bindyarani added three more gold medals to State's tally today.
The day also saw Manipur win 2 silver and 2 bronze medals taking the overall tally to 5 gold, 3 silver and 5 bronze medals.
Cycling
Manipur's L Ronaldo won the gold medal in the 1km time trial event where he emerged on top with a time of 1 minute 2.34 seconds.
M Sonali Chanu meanwhile settled for a silver medal finishing second in the women's 500 m time trial with a time of 36.60 seconds before Kh Rejiya Devi fetched the 3 km individual pursuit with the best time of 3 minutes 54.254 seconds.
Cyclist T Monorama also won a bronze medal in the 10 km scratch race for women. With these, State cyclists were able to win 4 medals for Manipur today.
Fencing
A day after Manipur won two bronze medals in Fencing, L Anita Devi and N Mina Devi added a silver and a bronze medal to State's tally finishing second and third in the girls foil individual event.
Notably, Laishram Abi won two bronze medals yesterday, one in the individual sabre event and another in the team sabre event with Th Daina, Th Sana and H Anapriya.
Weightlifting
After Manipur's Saikhom Mirabai, Phandom Ranibala won a gold medal each in the women's 49 kg and 55 kg events, CWG gold medallist, Sorokhaibam Bindyarani too won Manipur a gold medal today in the women's 59 kg category event.
Bindyarani registered a total lift of 194 kg as she cleared 83 kg in snatch and 111 kg in clean and jerk.
 Football
Manipur women's team kicked off their Games Group A campaign with a 5-2 win over Tamil Nadu as Rinaroy struck twice at Shahibagh Police Stadium.
Manipur produced a dominating performance and were 3-1 ahead of Tamil Nadu as Roja opened the scoring in the 13th minute and Rinaroy and Bala netted a goal apiece in the 21st and 32nd minute.
After the changeover, Rinaroy completed her double in the 47th minute before Priyanka struck deep into stoppage time.
The day also saw Goa beat Mizoram 2-1 in another Group A clash.
Manipur will play Goa in the next match on October 3 before taking on Mizoram in the penultimate league match on October 5.
Manipur men's team will open their campaign tomorrow against Services Sports Control Board at Transtadia at 6.30 pm.
