Rising cases of cancer in India, the burden on the health of society

Tobacco use is the cause of approximately 22% to 25% of cancer deaths. Obesity, poor diet, lack of physical activity, or excessive alcohol consumption are responsible for 10% of cancer deaths. Other factors include certain infections such as exposure to ionizing radiation and environmental pollutants. In developing countries, 15% of cancers are caused by infections such as Helicobacter pylori, hepatitis B, hepatitis C, human papillomavirus infection, Epstein-Barr virus, and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). Usually, several genetic changes occur before cancer develops.   (To be contd)
