2nd AMFA Cup : USA go down to SYMROPIA in 9-goal thriller

IMPHAL, Oct 2 : USA suffered a hardbreaking 4-5 loss in the 2nd AMFA Cup (Group B) as SYMROPIA, boosted by an early USA's own goal, surged ahead in the second half thanks to Manglianthang double here at Artificial Turf Ground, Lamlong Thongkhong today.
USA made a bright start to the game and were ahead just after 2 minutes when Shamhetshabam Boy caught SYMROPIA keeper Ginsa-wmlian by surprise. But to their dismay, Leihaorungbam Avinash fumbled and conceded an own goal in the 13th minute to make it 1-1.
SYMROPIA then made the most of a 25th minute chance to go ahead via Kapkhankhual but USA rallied back to draw level courtesy of Shamjetsabam Boy's second goal two minutes later.
After the break substitute Manglianthang gave SYM-ROPIA the headway yet again after 57 minutes but USA clawed back with Th Suraj scoring the equaliser in the 68th minute. USA enjoyed a brief lead when Haobijam Tombi who came off the back in the 62nd minute scored in the 74th minute but Manglianthang of hit the leveller for the Churachandpur outfit two minutes later before T Helsuanpau who came in for Johova Lalthangsanga in the 76th minute dug two minutes into the stoppage time to score the winner.
The day also saw KSC overwhelm TRUGPU 7-0 in a very lopsided Group B encounter courtesy H Robinson's poker and a double from Ginkholen Haokip.
KSC were in the drivers' seat right from the word go with Ginkholen Haokip coolly converting a penalty kick from the spot in the 14th minute and Lungousem Kipgen doubled the advantage in the 18th minute.
H Robinson Khongsai had his first in the 45th minute to give KSC a 3-0 first half advantage as TRUGPU remained clueless.
KSC picked up the game from where they left after the restart with H Robinson netting his second in the 55th minute and carried forward the onslaught with two more goals in the 69th and the 89th minute to make it 6-0.
Ginkholen Haokip then banged home the final nail to the coffin 2 minutes into the stoppage time.
