LEIKOL foundation day

IMPHAL, Oct 3: The 22nd foundation day of Leimarol Khorjeikol (LEIKOL) and the 100th birth anniversary of MK Binodini was observed today at Manipur Press Club.
The event was attended by Lamlai AC MLA Kh Ibomcha and president of LEIKOL Ksh Subadhani as presidium members.
Senior members of LEIKOL were felicitated at the programme and Sahitya Akademi awardee Sarat-chand Thiyam spoke on the topic ‘Mareibak kidamak Macha Ebemma Binodini’ on the life of MK Binodini, who is also a founding member of LEIKOL.
Speaking at the programme, MLA Kh Ibomcha said MK Binodini was an extremely brilliant novelist who was honoured with Padma Shri in 1976 for her contribution to literature. There is a lack of knowledge about the existence of LEIKOL, which is a platform for women to showcase their ability in the literary field, he added.
Ksh Subadani said the State Government during the period of Chief Minister O Ibobi had sanctioned a recurring grant of Rs 1 lakh to LEIKOL but the same has been discontinued. She expressed discontent that the Government seem to be neglecting them and sought attention of the Government to work for development of literature in the State.
