Comrade Ibohal expires

IMPHAL, Oct 3 : Comrade Moirangthem Ibohal who served as the commander-in-chief of Lamyanba Hijam Irabot’s Red Guard expired this morning at his residence at Top Khongnangkhong, Imphal East.
Comrade Moirangthem Ibohal was closely associated with Lamyanba Hijam Irabot and he was fondly called by his comrades in arm as MI.
Ibohal was 100. He was  born on December 22, 1922.
Apart from serving the Red Guard as its commander-in-chief, Comrade Ibohal took active role in setting Communist party in Manipur.
He was arrested on November 25, 1951 and imprisoned for a long time at Alipore Central Jail, Kolkata.
Comrade MI was elected to the Manipur Territorial Council from Sagolmang AC in 1967.
He also served as the Secretary of CPI Manipur and a member of the CPI National Executive Committee.
Comrade MI took active role in the people’s movement against AFSPA, said a press release issued by CPI-M, Manipur State Committee.
The party has condoled the demise of Comrade Moirangthem Ibohal by observing silence for two minutes.
On the other hand, a team of CPI, Manipur State Council leaders led by the party’s National Executive member visited the family of Moirangthem Ibohal on learning about his demise.    
The team not only paid last respect to the mortal remains of Comrade Ibohal but also took part in performing the last rites.
The party’s flag flown at the Irabot Bhavan was pulled down to half mast, conveyed a press release issued by the CPI, Manipur State Council.  
It informed that a grand, formal condolence meeting would be held at Irabot Bhavan at 12.30 pm of October 5.
