Mapao Zingsho, a small village of 145 households situated at the foothills of Sadar Hills, Kangpokpi district, situated 18 kms away from Imphal is set to host a Clean Village festival from October 11 to 14.
The village, known for its cleanliness and which has attracted a lot of visitors over the years, will be organising its first “Clean Village” Festival from October 11 to 14, 2022 at Mapao Zingsho village ground.
The festival is organised by the Mapao Zingsho Students Union, under which they have formed a Clean Village Committee to oversee the  requirements for the festival. A complementary 14 day State-level football tournament open to all participating teams is also organised as a part of the festival, along with host nite and musical concert.
In 2016, Mapao Zingsho village hosted World Tourism Day on which occasion the then Government of Manipur, declared it as the cleanest village in Manipur. Visitors from around Imphal, Manipur and even foreigners have come to see the village and they continue to do so.
The intention of organising this festival, according to the Clean Village Committee, is to promote the cleanliness of the village on a State level and to continue to uphold the title it has been bestowed. The student union of the village has also taken the initiative to maintain cleanliness and take charge of garbage picking and dumping.
“Regardless of being declared as the cleanest village, no projects or development schemes have been provided to the village. It continues to remain the same and development still seems far away. Visitors who come by praise us for our cleanliness but there is nothing more to show them besides the clean roads and the beautiful trees. They often complain about the lack of network facility in the village as we have only one BSNL tower in the village,” said a member of the Clean Village Committee. Invitations have been personally sent out to dignitaries and Ministers, of which some have confirmed to attend the festival, and is open to everyone willing to attend.
