IMPHAL, Oct 3 : A public on the demand for inclusion of Meitei/Meetei in ST category was held today at Top Moirangkampu Khewa Keithel, Imphal East under the aegis of STDCM.
Ananda Singh Higher Secondary School ex-Principal L Shyamsunder, STDCM general secretary K Bhogendrajit and STDCM working president Lt Col Laishram Lokendra attended the meeting as presidium members.
K Bhogendrajit, L Lokendra and STDCM finance secretary Kh Kunder were the main speakers at the meeting.
L Lokendra asked from whom Meitei/Meetei should seek permission for their survival in Manipur and whose permission they should seek for demanding Constitutional rights.
Recalling the repeated observations made by the Chief Minister in the State Assembly that the Meitei/Meetei community has landed in a very critical condition, Lokendra asked as to why the Chief Minister is not doing anything to secure the future of the particular community.
Asking if the Cabinet decision to legalise liquor was approved by all sections of people, Lokendra asserted that the voices of opposition raised against lifting prohibition on liquor have testified there is not a single issue which is either supported or opposed by 100 per cent of the people.
Just as the Chief Minister lifted prohibition on liquor with a political will, the situation is more than ripe for the State Government to send necessary recommendations to the Centre for enlistment of Meitei/Meetei in ST category, he asserted.
The meeting concluded with a resolution that the people of Moirangkampu area would support whatever decision adopted by STDCM on the issue of enlisting Meitei/Meetei in ST category, according to a press release issued by STDCM publicity secretary W Ananda Meetei.
