25th Sub-Jr National Sepaktakraw C'ships State girls register two wins on Day 1, boys confirm semi-final berth

IMPHAL, Oct 3 : Manipur boys and girls teams secured two wins each on the opening day of the 25th Sub-Junior National Sepak Takraw Championship being hosted by Karnataka.
In the girls team event, Manipur beat hosts Karnataka 3-0 dominating first regu 21-8, 24-22; second regu 17-21, 21-17, 21-16 and third regu 21-5, 21-6 to open their account before sealing a similar win against Gujarat {1st regu : 2-0 (21-19, 21-11); 2nd regu 2-0 (21-18, 21-17) and 3rd regu : 2-0  (21-3, 21-8)}.
Meanwhile the boys team kicked off their campaign with a 2-1 win over Delhi before easing to a 3-0 win over Andhrapradesh.
In the opening match, Manipur won the first regu 2-1 (12-21, 21-9, 21-18) and second regu 2-0 (21-14, 21-14) but conceded the third regu 1-2 (21-14, 17-21, 19-21).
Meanwhile against Andhra Pradesh, Manipur swept first regu 2-0 (21-13, 21-18), second regu 2-0 (21-9, 21-17) and third regu 2-0 (21-16, 21-17) to come out 3-0 winners.
With these wins, Manipur have qualified for the semi-finals with a match left to play against Kerala.
Mention may be made that the State girls team are clubbed in Group A alongside Assam, Gujarat, Odisha and Karnataka while the boys' team are drawn together in Group A with Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Delhi.
