First convocation of IIIT students held Low enrolment of local students concerns Minister

IMPHAL, Oct 4 : Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Singh has expressed concern over the low rate of enrolment of local students at Indian Institute of Information Technology, (IIIT), Manipur.
He said that the majority of the students being enrolled at the institute are from other States.
The Minister made the remark during a first convocation ceremony of IIIT, Manipur held at its auditorium at Mantripukhri , today.
During the ceremony, degree certificates were distributed to  171 B tech students (2019 to 2022 batches) while gold medals were conferred to nine students.
Speaking at the event, the Education Minister continued that  the Government will hold a dialogue with the Director of IIIT, Manipur to increase the rate of admission of local students to  the institute.
Saying that a State like Manipur which has geographical limitations must focus on Information Technology (IT) to take part in the development race, Basantakumar maintained that he will consult with Chief Minister N Biren Singh to arrange  a special coaching programme for the local students for admission to IIIT, Manipur.
Further stating that the socioeconomic conditions of the State  will improve only when more and more of "our youth" start their own business and become successful entrepreneurs, he maintained that IT will play a big role in taking the State to great heights.
Basantakumar claimed that the State is progressing fast under the dynamic leadership of the incumbent Chief Minister.
Director of Inter- University Accelerator Center, New Delhi  Prof Avinash Chandra Pandey and Director of IIIT, Manipur Prof Krishnan Basar also attended the programme among others.
