IMPHAL, Oct 4
Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA) condemned the show cause notice served on Assistant Professor Dr N Sanatomba of Manipuri Department, Manipur University for sharing his opinion on the Government's decision to legalise liquor in the State.
It may be noted that Professor Sanatomba shared his opinion where he attended as a jury member at a debate competition held at Manipur University. CADA in a press release expressed concern on the present scenario in the State where it has become impossible to raise voice or share opinions against the activities of the Government.
Denouncing such acts of violation of rights to freedom of speech and expression, CADA maintained that such restrictions will only lead the society in a regressive state which is really unfortunate.
Reacting strongly against the show cause notice served on Assistant Professor Dr N Sanatomba, Federal Students' Organisation, Kangleipak (FESOK) demanded the relevant authorities of Manipur University to revoke the notice at the earliest.
FESOK in a press release maintained that opinions and feedback of experts, teachers, intellectuals are essential while striving towards a progressive society.
Therefore the Government and authorities concerned should welcome such inputs rather than silencing the voices of the people, asserted the student body.
