USYC, SGVYO embarks on 'Clean Imphal River Campaign'

KANGPOKPI, Oct 4: The United Saparmeina Youth Club and Saitu-Gamphazol Village Youth Organization embarked on a mission to clean the Imphal River at Saparmeina today as part of 'Clean Imphal River Campaign'.
Notably, the campaign is an initiative of the State Government recently launched at Kangpokpi following the successful cleaning and rejuvenation campaign of the Nambul River. Meanwhile, a month-long 'Cleaning of Imphal River Campaign' was also kicked off today.
Youths from Saparmeina and Saitu area led by Michael Lamjathang Haokip, spokesperson of BJP Manipur Pradesh, cleaned the Imphal River from Koubru Laikha to Pangmol village in Kangpokpi district. They collected domestic and solid waste materials polluting the river with the assistance of JCB. The Imphal River cleaning drive will be conducted along the stretch from Kangpokpi to Sekmai for Phase-I. The cleaning of the Imphal River by USYC and SGVYO was initiated in collaboration with the Directorate of Environment and Climate Change.
Notably, Chief Minister N Biren Singh also expressed appreciation towards the youths for endorsing the initiative of the Govt in cleaning the Imphal River on his facebook post.
