One-day awareness program on horticulture, production and its impact in hill areas organised

NONEY, Oct 4: A one-day awareness program on horticulture, production and its impact in hill areas was held today at Multipurpose Hall, Tengkonjang Longmai- Part-III, Noney District HQ.
The awareness program was organised by Manipur State Commission for the Schedule Tribes (MSCST) in association with District Administration and civil organisations of Noney district.
Dignitaries present at the program include Thuigai Mathieu Rongmei, Chairperson, Manipur State Commission for the Scheduled Tribes (MSCST); Dr Tara Manchin Hangzo, Member (A), MSCST; Lungthaona Rongmei, Member (J), MSCST and Joseph Pauline Kamson, Deputy Commissioner, Noney as the chief guest and guests of honour respectively. Meanwhile Dr Roshan Dangmei, Agriculture Officer (Horticulture & Soil Conservation) was present as resource person.
The program began with an opening prayer by Dr Z Kamei, CMO Noney, followed by a welcome address by Joseph Pauline, DC Noney.
Speaking as the chief guest, Mathieu Rongmei assured that as Chairperson of the MSCST, he will work hard to bring about changes in the hill areas. He added that he would also like to focus on agriculture and horticulture farming to ensure less dependency on other states for these products. He encouraged all farmers of the hill areas to take up large scale plantation of suitable fruit varieties in order to improve their socio-economic condition. Further he suggested them to apply for the various schemes implemented under the Agriculture and Horticulture Department.
Longmai area village leaders, farmers, DLOS, BLOS and other CSO leaders participated in the day's event. Notably, popular Rongmei artists Benjamin Phaomei and Julia presented beautiful opening and closing songs to mark the occasion.
