Drug pusher held with brown sugar

IMPHAL, Oct 4 : A team of Imphal police arrested one drug smuggler along with 630 gram of brown sugar worth around Rs 9 lakh  in the local market from North AOC, today at around 8.30 am.
The person has been identified as Md Farijuddin (25), s/o Late Md Lahimuddin of Kwakta Ward No 2.
Reportedly, Farijuddin was arrested while travelling in a Dimapur bound Tata Sumo.
According to well placed sources, the police team rushed to North AOC on receiving inputs about the transportation of a banned drug item from Kwakta to Dimapur in a passenger vehicle and carried out a search operation.
Saying that the police detained one Tata Winger and checked the occupants, it said that two packets of brown sugar weighing around 630 gram were seized from the possession of  Farijuddin.
The brown sugar was seized in the presence of a Gazetted officer and two independent witnesses, it added.  
Further stating the drug smuggler was arrested at the spot by observing formalities, it continued that a case has been registered against the arrested person at Imphal Police Station under NDPS Act.
Sources said that a combined team of Imphal police and Phoubakchao  Ikhai police conducted a search operation at different localities to nab other associates of Farijuddin.
Farijuddin was, later, produced before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Imphal West by the police.
The Court remanded the drug smuggler to seven days police custody till October 10.
During interrogation, Farijuddin disclosed that the brown sugar was entrusted to him by one Md Samir (27), s/ Md Leiharuddin of Kwakta Ward no 8.
Samir has been arrested by the police from his residence . He too has been sent  to police custody till October 10.
