Mid-day meal workers raise charter of demands

IMPHAL, Oct 5: The 4th conference of All Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers Union was held today at the hall of Rupmahal Theatre.
The event was attended by Kshetrimayum Santa, secretary, CITU, Manipur; Maibam Loidang  Devi, founder president, All Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers Union; Sanasam Mainou, president, All Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers Union; Maibam Jamuna, vice-president, All Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers Union; Ayekpam Ashabala, secretary, AMDWA; Ch. Sundari, president, AMDWA and M Phalengchong Haokip, in-charge, Mid-day Meal, Education Department (S) Zone II, and other officials.
Speaking on the occasion, Arambam Thoi Chanu, general secretary, All Manipur Mid-day Meal Workers Union stated that the 4th State conference was organised in connection with the all India conference slated to be held on November 5 at Hyderabad.
Representatives of the Union will also be attending this national conference and putting forward their grievances, she added.
During the course of the conference, an executive body of 35 members was also constituted for the next three years.
It may be noted that Maibam Jamuna was appointed as the president, Arambam Thoi as the secretary and Kangjam Ibemcha as the treasurer, among others.
A charter of demands moved by Thoi Chanu was also passed during the conference which listed the demands of the Union, including increasing the honorarium of mid-day meal workers, regularisation, social security benefits etc.
Altogether, 387 delegates from various corners of the State attended the conference.
