World Suicide Prevention Day observed

KAKCHING, Oct 5 : District Health Society, District Mental Health Programme Tengnoupal today observed the 20th World Suicide Prevention Day at Khangshim Village Community Hall under Machi Block, Tengnoupal district.
The programme conducted under the theme, "Creating hope through action" was attended by Deputy Commissioner Tengnoupal, Ranjan Yumnam; ZEO Tengnoupal, Shokholun Baite; and CMO Tengnoupal, Dr J Touthang as presidium members.
Speaking on the occasion, Ranjan Yumnam expressed his concern over the lack of awareness on Mental Health and Depression among the public.
He also lamented the lack of Psychiatric Wards and insufficient Psychiatrist in hospitals operating in the State.
Ranjan Yumnam further appreciated the State Government and Psychiatric doctors for carrying out various activities to spread awareness on Mental Health among the people.
Dr N Guneshwar, senior psychiatrist, District Hospital Bishnupur also spoke on the occasion as resource person.
ASHA workers, Health workers, students, CSOs, and village authorities also participated in the programme.
