IMPHAL, Oct 5 : District Transport Officer, Imphal West Thiyam Dinachandra has appealed to all public transport service providers to follow  traffic rules and park their vehicles at appropriate space to reduce crash risk and traffic congestions.
The DTO, Imphal West carried out a drive at the adjacent areas of Khwairamband Keithel to detain transport service providers who violate traffic rules in a bid to get more passengers, today.
Speaking to media persons by the sideline of the drive, Th Dinachandra  said that the Transport Department has allotted parking lots for buses, mini-vans, autorickshaws etc operating in different routes of Imphal West as per the resolution of Traffic Regulation and Parking Committee.
Saying that some passenger service providers, mostly autorickshaw drivers, violate traffic rules and frequently park their vehicles carelessly in a bid to get passengers, the DIO added that such irresponsible driving and parking vehicles is very dangerous as it often creates traffic chaos and even road accidents.
The drive was carried out at Shamu Makhong, Maharani Bridge, Wahengbam Leikai, adjacent areas of Cheirap Court and Jiri Parking.
Saying that they have been carrying  out the drive since the last two-three days back, he added that the drive would be more successful if Traffic Control Police extends assistance.
To reduce instances of  traffic congestion and road accidents, the transport association, society and union must advise its members to follow traffic rules, he added.
"They (transport service providers ) are earning their living but they must  follow traffic rules at all times to prevent cancellation of their driving license and registration of vehicles," he cautioned.
