Keirao AC MLA calls for collective efforts to promote indigenous artforms

IMPHAL, Oct 6: Keirao Assembly Constituency MLA, Lourembam Rameshwor has stated that plans are underway to construct a huge Thang-Ta Hall at Keirao Bitra Khul in Imphal East district under the sponsorship of North Eastern Council (NEC) at an estimated cost of around Rs 5 Crore to promote the unique and indigenous Thang-Ta art form.
He made the above statement while speaking at the inaugural function of 3-Day Thang Ta and Manipuri Folk Dance Festival organised by Performing Organization of Art and Culture Manipur, Keirao Bitra Khunou.
Nine art and culture organizations of the State are participating in the 3-day festival.
The artists of Performing Organization of Art and Culture Manipur presented Thang-Ta and dance performances during the inaugural function.
The MLA further maintained that Thang-Ta and musical artforms are disciplined artforms while stressing on the need to make cohesive efforts to promote such artforms of the State.
Acknowledging the importance of indigenous artforms of the State, the Chief Minister has been giving special focus for the upliftment of the native artforms, he added.
He also informed that he will be having detailed discussions with the Chief Minister for the construction of Thang-Ta Hall at Keirao Bitra and sought support from the locals for the cause.
In context with the rampant use of drugs and intoxicants which has become a major concern in today's society, he made an earnest appeal to all to work collectively to tackle such issues   in the interest of all.
He also appealed to the OC of Irilbung Police Station to ensure that no form of intoxicants are sold within the 100 metre radius of educational institutions located within its jurisdiction.
